Are my donations tax deductible?

Yes. All donations are tax deductible. Toys for Tots is an IRS recognized 501(c)(3), not for profit, public charity.

-Donations may be claimed on individual tax returns by listing: date, value of donation, location of donation, and donated to:

Toys for Tots
C/O Delta Company, 4th Recon Bn
400 Wyoming Blvd NE
Albuquerque, NM 87123

-Receipts are not required for donation made at unmanned collection sites. However, if you would like a receipt please fill out the attached form and submit it to the above address. Our personnel will attach an Acknowledgement of Receipt and forward to the Toys For Tots Foundation. The Foundation will then provide a receipt in the form of a thank you/tax letter or post card.

- All Toys for Tots collection containers are considered unmanned. When personnel are present at a donation drop off site, it is typically for a scheduled event and not to manage the collection container itself; therefore, there is no requirement for a receipt, even though there may be Toys for Tots representatives present.

Donations of Service Support
- Local companies frequently donate service support (warehouse space, vehicle support, promotional support, etc.) to Toys for Tots Campaigns. Many of these companies desire to take a tax deduction for such support. It is important to remind these companies to consult with their tax advisor prior to their donation to verify the legality of taking a tax deduction for their support.

A Sample letter for arranging tax deductions for donated service support is attached here. Submit this letter to our local office for endorsement and forwarding to the Foundation. Once the Foundation receives a letter from the company donating service support and a letter from the local Toys for Tots coordinator certifying receipt of the service support, the Foundation sends to the donor a letter of thanks and acknowledgment of the donation for tax purposes.

What is the history of Toys for Tots?
Toys for Tots began in 1947 when Major Bill Hendricks, USMCR and a group of Marine Reservists in Los Angeles collected and distributed 5,000 toys to needy children. The idea came from Bill's wife, Diane. In the fall of 1947, Diane handcrafted a Raggedy Ann doll and asked Bill to deliver the doll to an organization, which would give it to a needy child at Christmas. When Bill determined that no agency existed, Diane told Bill that he should start one. He did. The 1947 pilot project was so successful that the Marine Corps adopted Toys for Tots in 1948 and expanded it into a nationwide campaign. That year, Marine Corps Reserve units across the nation conducted Toys for Tots campaigns in each community in which a Marine Reserve Center was located. Marines have conducted successful nationwide campaigns at Christmas each year since 1948. The initial objective that remains the hallmark of the program today is to "bring the joy of Christmas to America's needy children."
